Same comments as the previous reviews, wait ages for the phone to be answered, and eventually when you do get through, getting an appointment is difficult. If you have anything serious, you are given a triage assessment some time after you ring. The staff are friendly enough, although the surgery always seems to be empty. Is this because of the rigid appointment regime? In my case, a recent problem took nearly 12 months to bring to a conclusion as all that the doctor wanted to provide was Cortizone jabs instead of referral to a facility that had the expertise to administer the necessary care to repair the damage. Again, is this an attempt to reduce costs? In Ash Tree house's defence, when health service income is based on box ticking and tasks such as Flu jabs and blood pressure appointments driven by central government dogma, we all have a problem.

This is a forwards-looking practice who have embraced new technologies and clever division of tasks, to help make life easier for busy patients. I especially like the "booking in machine" and online prescription service- something which my old practice did not have. I like the fact they have a separate Prescriptions counter - no more waiting in a big queue while stressed receptionists ignore you waiting for your prescription while they answer the phone to appointments (which I also found at my old practice). I have found the staff to be very caring and friendly. Again this is a massive improvement compared to my old practice, where the receptions were stressed and grumpy pretty much all the time! I like it here. The GP I saw took my problems seriously and asked what I would like to do towards my treatment rather than dismissing me with something I'd hear many times before but I knew hadn't worked for me.

On the whole I think the practice does the best that it can. One receptionist is very curt but the others are fine. Hard to get an appt - and to get through on the phone - God forbid if you have a heart attack at 8.30 am on Monday morning as you would be dead by the time they answer the phone. I think there are several things they could do to improve the practice. Privacy in reception, more appointments available, at evenings and weekends, even if it is only Sat morning, what happened to the menopause clinic? also a drinks machine and a better psychologist would also be nice. The doctors surgery at St.Annes has a lovely chemist inside and a gift shop for you to browse around whilst you wait. Dr Zenghini is fabulous, you need more understanding and caring doctors like him. However would not change for anything

No privacy in Reception area due to open plan design therefore no confidentiality - everyone in the vicinity hears your name, address, DoB and other personal details. The idea of a wooden 'screen' at one end of Reception is a joke as it gives no more confidentiality than announcing your personal info in front of the whole Reception area! Could do with a small room or even boxing in the small area to the side of Reception where the 'screen' currently is. Receptionists very friendly and helpful. Phone lines take forever to be answered - either need extra Reception staff or more phone lines installed. As for the annoyingly inaccurate "You are in queue position 6, estimated time to answer 5 minutes" - what a joke! These inane messages serve only to wind people up - just answer the phone. If my call was REALLY important to you, there would be sufficient staff to answer calls surely...?! Absolute nightmare getting an appointment with a GP - by the time the appointment comes to fruition 2-3 weeks after being booked, the problem has gone... Can't wait for the online appointment booking system to come in to place as it is long overdue. GP's are usually good once you get to see them although I caught Dr Franklin on a bad day and found her very accusatory... Dr Malik really good. Good to see more evening appointments available beyond 6.30pm although none have been available any time I have called - always offered appointments which interfere with work, typically at lunchtime period. Could do with 7.30am weekday opening, also weekend opening even if only for a few hours. May benefit from restricting allocation of evening appointments solely to working people...? Nurses Suzie Manning and Joan are great - lovely bedside manner, warm, helpful, motivating and friendly. Always very smartly dressed too and obviously take pride in their work.
